How to Sew a Marquee


When holding an outdoor party, a good marquee seems to be necessary as it is able to provide shade for party guests and workers, as well as hold your food staffs because there is no doubt that you would like to put your all of your food outside in instead of have some of them in your kitchen. What is A Marquee?

A marquee is a large tent used as a temporary building. They have long been used for circus or other performances, fairs, banquets, large weddings or, more recently corporate entertainment events.

Nylon is a lightweight, synthetic material that does not allow water to permeate. It is more durable than other materials although can stretch if wet.  Silicon coated nylon prevent from mildew, don’t stretch and are thinner for more compressibility than regular nylons. It is used on high-end pop up gazebo, marquee or other tent.

 Polyester is a lightweight, man-made fabric like nylon. However, Polyester resists UV exposure better than nylon and does not slacken as much in the rain. Comparatively, Polyester is heavier which good for base camping trips with occasional portages and hikes.
